When you go to sell your directory you will have to write an ad for it either on eBay, a forum or another site. Basically you need to tell prospects what your directory has to offer and why they should buy it.
I mentioned that people usually want to know about traffic and earnings but they also want to know about other things like: does it have Pagerank, How many backlinks does it have, is it listed on major search engines, how hard is it to manage etc.
You should compile all that info for them so it’s easy to check. Remember the old advertising adage, “The more you tell the more you sell”. Give prospective buyers all the info they need to make the purchase right there. If you leave anything out it will raise flags to buyers that you are hiding something.
Yes writing and gathering screenshots takes a little bit of time in the beginning but once you do one you will have a guide to use for later. It gets faster the more you do. Luckily I’m including one of my templates I used which you can use as a guide.
Auction Titles:
When people go to eBay to search for websites they use certain keywords to search and if you use these in your title your auction listing will show up in their search results. Some of these keywords are:
- Profitable
- Established
- Website
- Web site
- Pagerank
- PR
- Business
So when I’d go to sell an established directory that has a Pagerank of 4 and is earning money my title would be:
Established Pagerank PR 4 Profitable Website Directory
I try to include as many keywords as I can while still remaining relevant. You can use a subheadline as well and I include other keywords that people might search for such as (traffic, seo, rankings, etc)
I’ve found a lot of people only care if a site makes money or not, but I’ve also found that sites with Pagerank also sell well. If your site is a Pagerank 3+ you’ll have a lot of people interested in it.
If I’m running an auction that has no reserve I include the initials NR in the title which stands for No Reserve. Having an auction with No Reserve and that starts out at a low price encourages people to watch it and bid.
