There are different auction formats on eBay you can use ie. Fixed price, Best Offer, Auction style, etc. You are free to choose whichever you like. I’ve only listed my sites under the Auction style format and it has worked great. Having people bid against each other creates a bit of a bidding war and it’s why eBay is so addictive. I think you take that away when you just list your goods using fixed prices.
I’ve tested many different things on eBay and I’ve found that starting your auction on Sunday around 7PM works the best. I sometimes vary it around those times to be earlier, say 7PM in New York instead of California but I stick to Sunday evenings. Basically you want to gauge when people will be home relaxing and on their computers. Sunday is the best time I’ve found.
Another thing I have found to increase bids is listing your site at 99 cents with no reserve. I know how crazy that sounds but it has actually worked out the best. My auctions usually get a lot more attention and thus more bidders bidding. Beware though that you could very well lose your site to a bidder for $1.00. I’ve never had that happen though.
To increase the amount of people that see my listing I usually choose to upgrade my listing for $29.95 to the Pro Pack so that it shows up twice in search and also at the top of search listings. Paying the $30 extra is absolutely worth it. It’s the difference of an auction receiving 150 visitors to one that receives 500.
Use Pro Pack – The Pro Pack option saves you money while helping your listing really stand out. Pro Pack combines Bold, Border, Highlight, Gallery Featured* and Featured Plus! and you pay less compared to purchasing each upgrade individually.
