Creating a video can be daunting if you aren’t comfortable in front of a camera but there are ways around this. First, you don’t have to create a face-to-face video you can create a slideshow basically advertising your directory and why if you are a website owner you should submit your website for inclusion.
Create some videos about your directories topic. Offer tips, advice, whatever and include your URL throughout the video. At the end of the video have a call to action so watchers are urged to visit your site. Also make sure you post your link inside the description field with your call-to-action.
A great place to create slideshows online is Slideshare.net. It’s a slideshow sharing service that lets you create slideshows and host them for free. Basically it is like youtube but solely for slideshows.
Slideroll.com is another site offering slideshow tools along with free hosting.
Of course if you create a video or slideshow be sure to upload it to the many other video sites like youtube.com, Google Video, Yahoo Video, Vimeo, etc. Of course I’ve included a large list of video sharing sites you can upload your videos too in the resources section.
When you have your videos uploaded be sure to embed them onto your social network profiles such as myspace or facebook.
One of the great advantages of creating a video on Youtube or say Google Video is that the page your video is on gets ranked in the SERPS, sometimes pretty high so you can get much traffic this way. Using videos to promote your website is just one more way to create a funnel of traffic to your directory.
