That means you need to let the world know your directory exists and build up your sites Pagerank and traffic.
You can do this using various methods.
You can build hundreds of directories but if you don’t build up the Pagerank and traffic you will never make a dime. It’s true for every website on the web.
The way you build up Pagerank and traffic is by getting backlinks. Getting links to your site is the most important thing you can do for it. You can have the most highly SEO on-page optimized website but if you have zero links pointing at it then it won’t do you a bit of good.
Having good Pagerank tells other website owners that your site is important and nowadays webmasters know that getting links from other sites with high Pagerank in affect boosts their Pagerank and so that is why you see directory submission services popping up. Every webmaster in the know is out to get links and directories are there for just that… to get listed on. So if you have a directory with decent Pagerank your chances of people wanting to be listed on it go way up. So having decent Pagerank is essential.
Having a site with high Pagerank (PR4+) also allows you to monetize your directory by selling text links which is easy money. Webmasters pay good money for PR4+ text links because they know they’re Pagerank will increase as well as their rankings by having more quality links to their site.
It’s not hard at all to get a Pagerank 4 for a directory, but it either costs you time or money to achieve.
You can either put in the time to gather backlinks yourself or you can pay someone else to gather backlinks for you… or you can buy links.
Remember doing SEO yourself is never free, unless your time is worth nothing and always remember rankings are never guaranteed. By outsourcing your SEO efforts you can save time which is irreplaceable. Of course outsourcing SEO costs money so if you are on a tight budget then you’ll have to perform SEO yourself.
