There are many directories online to submit your site to but let me give you a few tips on doing it right.
First: You might be tempted to go out and use a directory submission service to submit your directory to hundreds and hundreds of other general directories. Don’t do this! It will do little good and might even get your directory banned. The reason for this is that Google and other search engines know where your links are coming from. If they see you have all these new links from directories they are more then likely going to devalue those links, so it’s as if you never got them in the first place. They might even go as far as banning your site.
Second: There are some directories that are very popular and have been around for many years. They usually have very good Pagerank and traffic. These directories are your best bet at receiving any real value. If you are going to submit your site to directories then start with these first.
I’m a firm believer in slow
organic growth. It’s the best way to
keep from getting banned. You want to
make your new backlinks seem natural, like webmasters are freely linking to
you.
